Q: Why does this particular job require two city workers?

PDFPrintE-mail

From John Swaren:

I pay taxes for the city and understand the need for them. I also understand the poor economy requires the city to watch every penny and attempt to save money in all places. Yet this morning while walking I noted a Hampton van stop and two men dismount. One man had a hook which he used to remove a manhole cover. The other man lowered a pole into the open hole to make some form of check. He removed the pole, the first man closed the manhole and the two of them got back in the truck and rode to another manhole where they repeated the drill.

Question: Why two men? Fire one right now and save some money.

My street, drive way, and yard floods every time that it rains; my neighbors yards does the same thing. What can the city do do fix this? It has been going on since I moved to the neighborhood in 2002 and continues to get worse.

From Elizabeth Evans:

Due to the exteme weather conditions this winter and the lack of homeless shelters other than the Eucumenical which are dependent on church charity, could the City set up a temporary shelter for homeless? This could be a life saver this winter.

Q: When can we expect Indian Creek to be dredged?

PDFPrintE-mail

From Rick Daniels:

There had been talk that Indian Creek in the Old Wythe Neighborhood would be dredged to reduce the amount of flooding that occurs around the streets of Harbor Drive, Ocanoe and Powhatan Parkway. With Federal assistance available is this going to be planned?

Q: Can police K-9s be used to search newly purchased vehicles for drugs?

PDFPrintE-mail

From William Travis:

The Air Force had an assistance program in which military members could have a recently purchased vehicle inspected by the Canine Department for drugs. If drugs were located, a simple form was completed and the authorities confiscated  the drugs without a legal action against the owner (I believe it had to be within a week of purchase).

Q: About crime issues in Fox Hill

PDFPrintE-mail

From Mark Rosati:

This is not so much a question, but a concern that we feel should be brought to your attention.  As a military family, we have lived in numerous neighborhoods throughout the world.  Three years ago we moved from Little Rock Arkansas, to Hampton’s Fox Hill neighborhood.  Fox Hill was presented to us as a neighborhood with unique history, relatively free of crime, and with great schools.
