The Hampton Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta enters the ballroom.

The Hampton Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta sorority hosted the region at a luncheon to celebrate their 99th annual Founders Day on Saturday, January 21.  The second floor of the Hampton Roads Convention Center was an amazing and beautiful site with over 1,200 women dressed in red suits and dresses, with few exceptions, mingling and traveling up the stairs and escalators.

Once inside the ballrooms, the sea of red was even more impressive as the tables were decorated with red napkins and decorations.

After most of the attendees were seated, the Hampton Chapter marched in slowly to music, each woman wearing a white silk scarf identifying her as a member of the Hampton group.  There were over 260 women in the procession, forming two rows. After the entire membership was inside, the sorority leadership, each dressed in white,  marched in between the rows onto the dais.

Delegate Jeion Ward and our own City Attorney, Cynthia Hudson, are members of the Hampton Chapter.

Delta Sigma Theta was founded in 1913 at Howard University and now has over 900 chapters, forming a sisterhood with over 200,000 members.  It is a non-profit corporation whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in communities throughout the world.

Next year Deltas from all over the country will meet in Washington D.C. to celebrate their 100th Founders Day.
